One of our commercial clients is celebrating 100-years of business. Congratulations!
Black-and-white photos featured cars of a bygone era decorate the walls of College Hill Plumbing and Heating, Inc.
Those photos are a testament to the 100-year-old history of this Topeka company that grew from its focus on plumbing to include heating, cooling and electrical work.
Keith Smith’s grandfather, Joe A. Smith, purchased the business in 1948, expanding the plumbing business he already owned. College Hill was owned before that by George Hamilton, said CEO Keith Smith.
While the Smith family doesn’t know a definitive founding date of the company, it has a handwritten receipt from April 1, 2018, listing B.F, Sumey as proprietor, Smith said.
The family will celebrate 100 years (at least) in business at 5 p.m. Tuesday with an open house and ribbon-cutting at 2850 S.E. Adams.
